Cebu, the Philippines’ second most populous city and the country’s main international gateway, was named among the world’s best islands again by an international travel magazine.

Cebu has been ranked as one of the world's best islands for five consecutive years. The city has been a significant destination for tourists because of its pristine beaches, beautiful mountain ranges, and bustling nightlife.

Cebu is also known for its rich culture and cuisine. It is home to more than 120 festivals annually, including Sinulog Festival which celebrates Cebu's patron saint - Santo Nino.

It received multiple recognition from international travel magazines such as Condè Nast Traveler and Big 7 Travel.

Once again this year, Cebu made it to the list of the world's best islands ranking 16th among The 25 Best Islands in the World by the New York-based magazine Travel+Leisure. The magazine gives Cebu a score of 90.12.

Like Cebu, Boracay and Palawan were also among the best islands. These two also received recognition multiple times by international magazines. Travel+Leisure ranked Boracay in 9th place after it got a score of 90.89 while Palawan was in 11th place with a score of 90.81.

According to the magazine, the ranking is based on a survey of its readers who shares their travel experiences.

Readers rated islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value.

The DOT secretary Christina Frasco applauded the inclusion of some of the country's tourist destinations and released a statement through the agency's Facebook page.

The Philippines is truly blessed with the unrivaled beauty of our natural resources coupled by the warmth and endless talent of the Filipinos manifested in this citation of Travel + Leisure that included our Cebu, Palawan, and Boracay in their prestigious list.
